Bella Thorne is just like us, and she proved that in her recent interview with Maxim when she named Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato as her celebrity crushes.
Bella told Maxim she goes all googly-eyed for Miley and Demi and we totally understand. Bella called them âtoasty,â and we agree.
âDemi Lovato. I must sayâŚrawrrrr, Bella said. âShe is a pretty toasty woman. Miley Cyrus, too. Sheâs dope. But Demi is fire, just fire.â
Beyond Bellaâs impeccable taste in crushes, though, thereâs another reason why Bellaâs answer is important. By naming Demi and Miley as her crushes, Bella continues to show the world that biSŃxuality exists and itâs real.
Erasure is a huge issue in the biSŃxual community because thereâs a lot of skepticism around the idenŃΚŃy. For some reason, a lot of people have the idea that biSŃxual people are just confused, or that they should âpick one.â Even though there are more young people who identify as biSŃxual than ever, that perception continues. Because of all the skepticism, we donât see biSŃxual people on TV or in movies all that often, contributing to the idea that they donât really exist. By speaking very casually about her idenŃΚŃy, Bella is making a statement, whether she means to or not, that being biSŃxual is real and itâs OK.
Bella made the same statement when she came out. There wasnât a huge announcement, she just answered a fanâs question on Twitter. To her it wasnât a big deal, but Bella said there has been pushback from people in her industry.âIt is hard in this business for us. It really is. I have already had people talk sh-t to me,â Bella told Maxim. âAnd it comes from people in the industry, not even fans. Iâve had studios tell me my image is too âout there,â hinting at it but not really saying it.â
Despite pushback, Bella refuses to be anyone but herself, which is amazing. The same thing goes for her relationships. Bella, whoâs currently dating Tyler Posey, said itâs important to find someone who accepts all of you.
âSomebody who gets you, that relationship where somebodyâs just completely accepted who I am as a person and is just like, âFâk it!âI love that,â Bella said.
We love that too, and we love that Bella is unapologetically herself. Whether she means to or not, Bella is showing countless other people that being themselves is ok and they arenât alone.
